Health Improvement Model (HIM)

The Process

This follows the ‘Plan, Do and Review’ cycle of improvement and is based on the national Healthy Schools Toolkit (Department for Education).

• Set up a Health and Wellbeing Improvement Group in school

• Identify need using data and/or surveys

Choose a priority area eg:

  • Healthy Lifestyles
  • Emotional Health and Wellbeing
  • Relationships and Sex Education
  • Oral Health
  • Substance Misuse
  • Participation
  • Raising Aspiration
  • Safety

• Complete the Health and Wellbeing planning sheet, setting meaningful outcomes and early success indicators including universal and targeted activities

• Establish a baseline measure before introducing the intervention

• Implement activities for the mainstream and also for a targeted group of pupils

• Monitor progress by measuring against early success indicators

• Review achievements against original outcomes

• Celebrate the achievement of bringing about an improvement in the health and wellbeing of the pupils in your school.
