The term ‘physically literate’ is used to describe a child who has good physical development with well-developed gross and fine motor skills for their age. Research indicates a correlation between young children’s levels of physical development with a readiness to learn.
The Strengthening Muscles: Strengthening Minds Programme has been developed to support the physical literacy of children between 3 and 8 years in schools and nurseries. The programme is also suitable to use with older children that do not meet expected levels of physical development for their age.
By the end of the workshop delegates will:
- have an awareness/ understanding of children’s physical development and what normal development looks like
- be able to accurately assess the physical development of children using age appropriate gross motor skill checklists
- be provided with a programme of appropriate activities to improve children’s gross motor skills
- be able to measure the physical development progress of children taking part in the programme
An element of the course will be practical, so please dress appropriately
