School Sport Nottingham
School Sport Nottingham has been established between a partnership of Nottingham City Council’s Sport, Outdoor Learning, Life Skills, Adventure and Risk Management (SOLAR) Service, Ellis Guilford School and Sport College, Farnborough School and Technology College and NHS Nottingham City.
Ellis Guilford School hosts 2 posts, the Physical Activity, PE and Sports Strategy Manager and the School Sport and PE Officer, who both have remits to develop the School Sport, PE and Physical Activity programmes in all City schools. Funding for the posts has been accessed from Sport England for the delivery of the School Games programme and from NHS Nottingham City to develop the Physical Activity programme in City schools.
In addition to these posts, every secondary school in Nottingham City has received funding from the Department for Education to employ a member of staff to provide specialist PE and sport training in local primary schools and within their own school and to provide more competitive sport for all pupils including the school games. OakField Special School and Sports College also has a dedicated Inclusive PE and Sport Officer who has a role to develop the Inclusive PE and sport programme across City schools.
School Sport Nottingham has a focus on increasing high quality PE, out of hours school sport, competitions, leadership development and informal play. Additionally, the work aims to improve the attitude and behaviour of pupils and increase attainment and achievement of pupils in PE and across the whole school. We also work closely with a range of partners in the local community to provide opportunities and pathways for young people to access sports and activities outside of school and benefit by sitting within the SOLAR Service of Nottingham City Council.
