Ice Skating

It is great to have children rewarded for their skill- we have had a child invited to take up a skating scholarship through the Why Nott? Programme. We cannot begin to describe the effect this has had on her self-esteem and profile within school. – Crab Tree Farm Primary

Schools Ice Skating Programme

With tuition from the National Ice Centre you could uncover the next Torvill & Dean, Nottingham Panther or Olympic Speed Skater hiding at the back of your classroom!

The National Ice Centre’s award winning Schools Ice Skating Programme offers an exciting, motivational and fun experience for children – with all participants receiving a national qualification, accredited by the National Ice Skating Association (NISA), upon completion of the programme.

Over 21,000 children have participated in the programme to-date and it is seen by the Youth Sport Trust as being an inspiring way for young people to take part in PE and sport who are not yet engaged.

This package has been delivered across schools in the East Midlands since 2006.

Confidence increased in groups of children, most notably in children of lower academic achievement who have really been working on equal terms with other children. Attendance has been improved… there are a number of children with moderate to severe learning difficulties who have really benefited from the programme, it has been very inclusive.” – Nottingham Academy

Urban Hockey

Urban Hockey is a fast moving, exciting playground sport which is helping children of all ages to engage in PE.

Based on the game of ice hockey, participants learn to stickhandle, pass and shoot like the pros.

This exciting sport can be played by anyone irrespective of age or ability and is used by many local schools to support their PE lessons since 2007. It has been developed to teach youngsters the basic and fundamental skills of hockey, whilst providing a unique opportunity for children who may not engage in sporting activities.
