A Kaleidoscope of Colour at Cantrell Carnival
Last week Bulwell was awash with colour at the annual Cantrell Primary carnival. Throughout the day events were taking place celebrating culture, diversity and the amazing communities that call Bulwell and the surrounding area home.
In the morning classes did some fantastic work celebrating different cultures from across the globe – including making bunting showing the flags many different nations, many of whom are represented within school. In the afternoon there was a rotation of activities in science, music, sport, art and drama – including an amazing Community Curiosity Lab lead by the awesome Ignite. The afternoon was rounded off with a parade to show off the incredible work done in the morning.
Then, in the evening, the school’s gates were thrown open for a brilliant summer fair. There were stalls – including Ignite doing more science wizardry, local organisations and artisans selling their wares and the Bulwell EAZ doing glitter tattoos! Food was amazingly diverse from Caribbean jerk chicken to Italian pizza and ice cream – plus healthier options like delicious fresh fruit. There was also live music from the talented Mr Houlgate and friends playing their jazzy blend of Balkan gypsy music.
It was a great event and showed off the best of Bulwell and the wider world to pupils, staff and the community. It was a highlight of Bulwell’s brilliant Art Week and I can’t wait to go back next year – even if just to get another jerk chicken wrap!
