Radiation Protection

All secondary schools that have radioactive sources for teaching must by law appoint a Radiation Protection Advisor. This service provides a named Radiation Protection Advisor through the CLEAPSS scheme. In addition the service provides an qualified intermediary, a Radiation Protection Officer (RPO) that the academy may contact for advice. The RPO will also visit the academy on a periodic basis to provide support to the school and ensure that all correct procedures are being followed. Note that academies must also have subscribed to CLEAPSS to access this additional service.
